Weekly Nordic walking club launched at the retirement village

A weekly Nordic walking club has been launched at the new Richmond retirement village at Aston-on-Trent.  The group meets every Tuesday at 11am, and offers guided walks around the beautiful grounds of the village before venturing further afield around the idyllic South Derbyshire countryside.

Open and free to join to residents of Richmond Aston-on-Trent and members of the Wellness Spa - please see note below about membership, the walking club is the brainchild of Donna Holden, a personal trainer at the spa.

Talking about the group Donna said: “Nordic walking is fantastic exercise for young or old alike and - particularly in the summer months - is a great way to enjoy the beautiful area we live in.  I’m a keen Nordic walker myself and have led various groups in the past so, once I realised there was interest from the residents, I jumped at the chance to set something up.”

Joanne Wilson, village manager at Richmond Aston-on Trent, added: “We really try to come up with new and different activities for our residents and encourage our staff to ‘go the extra mile’ to deliver interesting things for them to do.  With some 16 people participating in this first walk, I think they have excelled themselves!”

Note: Spa membership is open to the public at a cost of £80 per month or £800 for annual membership paid in advance. This includes full use of the swimming pool, fitness suite, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, all classes plus 15% off any beauty or hair treatment.  Call 01332 794300 for information.
