Richmond Villages Letcombe Regis is to host a week of artists in residence as part of Oxfordshire Artweeks between Saturday 19 - Sunday 27 May, from 11am - 4pm each day.

Free to visitors, the event will feature a group of artists showcasing a stimulating collection of traditional and contemporary styles across mixed media work, glass, lighting, painting, pottery and textiles.  Artists will include a number of residents from the Richmond village, as well as local artists Teresa Barrow, Ann Batchelor, Margaret Dunn, Coleen Gray, Peter Hall, Allan Lancaster and Pamela Ward Shanks.  In addition to seeing their work on display, there will be the opportunity to watch artists at work and discuss their approach and the varying materials and techniques being used.

The textile work embraces felt, patchwork, bag making and recycled materials, while the recycling theme is also used in the making of lamps from unusual objects.  The paintings include equestrian art and landscapes, while the glass painting centres on botanical work.

This stimulating visual variety of art will be staged in the beautiful surroundings of the Richmond retirement village, including its 30-acre grounds and nature reserve, while refreshments and lunches will be available from the village’s thatched Lodge Café.

“We are delighted to be teaming-up with Oxfordshire Artweeks again and co-hosting this event for the third year running,” said Lizzie Philpott, head of activities at Richmond Villages Letcombe Regis.  “Many of our residents are keen artists and regularly use the village art studio - we have some real talent.  Some went to art school in their youth whilst others started later in life when perhaps their partners became ill or they wanted to learn a new skill.  All have interesting stories, many with historical or political backgrounds.

“There will be a real buzz around the village during Artweek, and we really look forward to welcoming all art enthusiasts as well as showcasing our resident artists.”
Added Esther Lafferty, festival director of Oxfordshire Artweeks: “With three art weeks covering the north & west, city and south of the county, this is Oxfordshire's largest visual arts festival and we are delighted to be returning to Richmond Villages at Letcombe Regis again.  We are hoping for great weather and a good response from art lovers across the region.”

The event will be held at: Richmond Letcombe Regis, South Street, Letcombe Regis, OX12 9RG.
